The Career Raven Weekly: Interview Preparation 101: What to Do Before Your Cameras On.
Hello, Career Raven Coven!
You’ve landed an interview—congratulations! But what comes next? This week, we’re diving into Interview Preparation 101, giving you all the tools to walk into the interview room with confidence.
Why Interview Preparation is Key
The best candidates aren’t just the ones with the right skills. They’re the ones who show up fully prepared. Interview prep is crucial because it helps you present your experience clearly, answer tough questions confidently, and impress the hiring manager.
Steps for Effective Interview Preparation
Research the Company & Role
Know the company’s mission, products, and culture. This will allow you to tailor your answers to show why you're a perfect fit. Be ready to discuss how your skills align with their needs.Practice Your Answers
There are common questions that almost every interview will include, such as:“Tell me about yourself.”
“What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
“Why do you want to work here?” Practice answering these questions out loud. It’ll help you sound confident and articulate during the interview.
Prepare Questions for the Interviewer
Interviews are a two-way street. Show interest in the company by asking insightful questions like:“What are the company’s goals for the next year?”
“How do you measure success in this role?”
“Can you tell me about the team I’ll be working with?”
Dress the Part
Dress for the role and company culture. If you're unsure, it's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed. Always look professional and polished. Even when on camera.Get Your Mindset Right
Calm your nerves by practicing mindfulness or visualization techniques. Think of the interview as a conversation rather than a test. You’re there to show your value and assess if the role is the right fit for you.
Action Steps:
Research the company thoroughly for recent news, company values, and projects they’re working on.
Practice answers to common interview questions.
Prepare 3-5 insightful questions for your interviewer.
This Week's Challenge:
This week, I challenge you to schedule a mock interview with a friend or mentor to practice your responses. The more you rehearse, the more confident you'll feel.
